Device profile: WANDA -- a "tri-wireless" PDA reference design

Texas Instruments (TI) has introduced a new "tri-wireless" PDA reference design called WANDA, which stands for "Wireless Any-Network Digital Assistant." According to TI, the design represents an industry first in that it combines 802.11b and Bluetooth wireless capabilities, along with a GSM/GPRS tri-band radio, into a single low-power handset design.

TI says the WANDA reference design -- which is based on one of TI's OMAP system-on-chip processors running Microsoft's Pocket PC operating system -- can help manufacturers bring new products to market in as little as 100 days. Additionally, WANDA's modular design supposedly enables creating multiple PDA configurations targeted at specific market segments and price points.
