Apr. 07, 2003
Arcom has released a Windows CE .NET 4.1 based development kit and BSP for its Olympus single-board computer (SBC). The kit includes a Windows CE .NET 4.1 image preloaded in a 32MB CompactFlash card, thereby alleviating the need to build an operating system image using Platform Builder, the company said. The SBC supports a range of Socket 370 processors at clock speeds up to 1 GHz, and has a built-in video controller and Ethernet interface, plus a range of additional I/O ports.
According to Arcom, the OS image provided in the kit includes key Windows CE .NET 4.1 components, including Internet Explorer 5.5, Windows Media Audio and MP3 playback, MPEG audio and video codecs, file viewers for PDF, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word, wireless LAN, and an HTTPD web server.
The kit comes with the Olympus SBC, a 733MHz Intel Celeron CPU (with heatsink and fan), 256MB PC133 SDRAM, a 32MB CompactFlash card (including the OS and other software mentioned above), power supply, serial and Ethernet cables, documentation, and a development software CD. Also included are a Windows CE .NET 4.1 license and a copy of Microsoft's eMbedded Visual Tools C++ 4.0 CD, as well as evaluation versions of Windows CE Platform Builder, Windows XP Embedded Target Designer, and two Windows Embedded resource CDs, Arcom said.
The Olympus SBC conforms to the EBX form-factor (5.75 x 8 in.) and supports Socket 370 processors such as Intel's Celeron and Pentium III, and VIA's C3 processors, running at clock rates up to 1 GHz (with 133MHz FSB). Other features of the SBC includeS3 ProSavage graphics, 10/100 Ethernet, 4 serial ports, PCI expansion slot, CompactFlash socket, and industry standard PC/104 bus, the company said.
